Johnsons Rock Sidelines; Next Performance Is September 25th

Johnsons sidelines small

Last weekend, The Swingin’ Johnsons brought the PARTY to Sidelines Sports Bar and Grill in Cedar Park. Only the misters provided a cool-down from the patio heat. The crowd was awesome, and the band performed many bizarre requests throughout the evening. Furthermore, Jason played his first bass solo at a Johnsons gig. Bruce brought his True Temperament Franken-Telecaster and surf amp, Robert got pretty close to blowing up his amp, and Spencer didn’t sing any songs for his mom. In all fairness, he had significant A/C issues on his hands. Speaking of hands, lend us your support next month – the band returns to Sidelines on Friday, September 25th, so mark your calendars, put a reminder in your iPhone, and anything else to help us all remember! A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Johnsons Drummer Thommy Hall Gets Sexy New Hot Crazy Kit

Thommy new drums

Swingin’ Johnsons drummer Thommy Hall has revealed that he has a new drum set. Known to change kits like some drummers change socks, Thommy’s new custom kit should come as no surprise; it is sure to make heads turn and eyes roll. Double kick drums with screamin’ Mimi graphics accentuate an otherwise sophisticated, reserved and professional set up. Hall commented, “I really like these drums, and you will too. When I hit ’em, you’ll get ’em. They’re Kentucky fried, so you’ll be mystified. And when I’m done you’ll be satisfied.” The band’s lead singer Bruce Jordahl said, “Why does Thommy need another drum set? Do we have a gig? Are we making a record? He doesn’t have a side project, does he? That’s not cool. And why does he sound like Jesse Jackson?” Bass player Scott Church added, “I am perplexed by this as well. We haven’t had a band meeting in a few years, but Thommy’s new kit makes me wonder if I missed one of them. It’s all good with me personally, and 4 Wall has no official statement – as of yet – on these developments. Bruce is really the paranoid one here.” The Johnson’s Robert Mokry points out, “Bruce is paranoid. He’s always accusing me of touching his knobs. Stay tuned for more hot news from your favorite lighting industry band The Swingin’ Johnsons!”

Johnsons Rock Hard At Flood Jam

On August 18th, lighting industry favorites The Swingin’ Johnsons headlined The Music Hall stage at the Suwannee Valley Flood Jam, a benefit for flood victims of Suwannee, Hamilton and Columbia counties. Held at the Spirit Of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL, the event raised proceeds for victims of Tropical Storm Debby. More than 25 bands performed at the music park, including Peter Rowan, The Lee Boys, Jamie Davis, The Heavy Pets, Donna The Buffalo and The Legendary JC’s. One hundred percent of net profits from the Suwannee Valley Flood Jam are to be donated to locally based charities, Love INC based in Live Oak, FL and The United Way based in Lake City, FL

A native of Suwannee County, Swingin’ Johnsons drummer Thommy Hall worked tirelessly to coordinate the Johnsons’ visit, collect items for the on-line charitable auction, program lighting and other antics. Sound and lighting gear for The Music Hall was provided by First Street Music. After enjoying breakfast and a tour of the campgrounds, the Johnsons played a 90-minute set of music from their first two CDs, as well as surprises like Led Zeppelin’s ‘Rock n Roll’. They later enjoyed a short seminar titled ‘Packing Up The Show’. This event also marks the first time that Bruce Jordahl was not late for the gig, thus latency was not a significant factor in his performance. However, Scott Church emerged as the evening’s MVP by refusing to utilize the lowest string on his bass. Summing up the experience, Hall said, “These guys can really play. But as roadies, they have a long way to go before they can join my crew!”

The Swingin’ Johnsons are Robert Mokry (LightParts), Scott Church (4 Wall), Thommy Hall (Vari-Lite) and Bruce Jordahl (marketing pinchhitter). In the VERY near future, the Swingin’ Johnsons will announce a major Las Vegas performance to occur in late October; for more information visit www.swinginjohnsonsband.com.

Johnsons To Headline Suwannee Valley Flood Jam

At 10 pm on August 18th, The Swingin’ Johnsons will be headlining the Suwannee Valley Flood Jam in Live Oak, Florida. Organized by the Suwannee Music Foundation and The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, the Flood Jam is a benefit for the victims of Tropical Storm Debby.  On June 24, 2012, the storm settled over north Florida for four days, dumping more than 25 inches of rain in some areas of Suwannee, Hamilton and Columbia Counties. The Suwannee River rose to near record flood levels and dozens of sinkholes developed around those counties, destroying many businesses and homes while making roads impassible. 1500 families were flooded out of their homes – many left without shelter, cars, clothes, food or any worldly possessions. The flood affected over 10,000 other people throughout the tri-counties.

More than 25 bands including Music Park favorites Peter Rowan, The Lee Boys, Jamie Davis, The Heavy Pets, The Legendary JC’s, and Donna the Buffalo will join The Johnsons on the bill. An on-line charitable auction will also be held; in person or not, attendees will have the opportunity to bid on a variety of great items including artist memorabilia, diamond and gold jewelry, music instruments and jewelry.  Visit www.musicliveshere.com for updates, to view the online auction and to purchase tickets. One hundred percent of net profits from the Suwannee Valley Flood Jam will be donated to locally based charities, Love INC based in Live Oak, FL and The United Way based in Lake City, FL.
